About Scott Perkins Farms

Scott Perkins Farms grew out of a lifetime spent working cattle, farming the land, and doing the kind of work that requires showing up every day and doing things right.

What started as years of hands-on experience has become an operation built around consistency, responsibility, and staying closely involved in the work.

Based in Southeast Iowa, SPF is a hands-on agricultural operation focused on cattle feeding, trucking, and row crop management (with an emphasis on custom cattle feeding and cattle hauling). Scott is directly involved in the day-to-day work, from feeding and caring for cattle to coordinating hauling and managing the details that keep the operation running smoothly.

Decisions are made on the ground, based on what’s happening day to day. Scott also feeds cattle of his own alongside customer cattle, which influences how the operation runs. Care, timing, and decisions are handled the same way across the board, with attention paid to the details that matter over the long haul.

The operation currently has feeding capacity of 900 head, with pin spaces of 60, 120, and 240. allowing for close observation and manageable handling. There is room to grow, and expansion is planned as the operation continues to develop. While SPF isn’t a large corporate feedyard, the facilities and daily routines are set up with purpose. Pens and handling areas are managed to keep cattle settled and moving smoothly. Cattle are checked regularly, and care is adjusted as needed rather than set and forgotten.

By keeping cattle feeding, livestock hauling, and coordination in-house, SPF avoids unnecessary handoffs and confusion. The work stays organized, communication stays clear, and responsibility stays where it belongs. The goal isn’t to be the biggest operation — it’s to run a dependable one that does the work right, day in and day out.

At its core, Scott Perkins Farms is built on honest work, experience earned over time, and a commitment to doing right by the cattle, the land, and the people involved.

Our Facilities

We have invested in our facilities to provide your cattle with exceptional, state-of-the-art accommodations. You have the option to house your cattle indoors, under a roof, in a more controlled environment designed to maximize gains while shielding them from weather extremes. This helps support overall health, comfort, and, most importantly, productivity.

If backgrounding is what you’re looking for, you also have the option to run cattle on grass or open lots. Our load-in and load-out facilities, processing facilities, pens, and alleyways are designed to minimize handling stress and ensure the best possible care for your cattle.

In Animal Husbandry

Details Matter

With years of experience and expertise, we pay close attention to every stage of the feeding process. From intake and processing to ration formulation, pen maintenance, treatment, and daily care, it’s the multitude of details that ultimately leads to superior performance.

Nutrition & Ration

Development

We work with skilled and knowledgeable nutritionists to develop starter, grower, and finisher rations designed to get the most out of your cattle and support consistent performance throughout the feeding period.

Daily Observation &

Veterinary Care

Pens are walked several times a day. Sick or injured cattle are pulled promptly for examination and treatment. Veterinarians are frequently on-site to assess the needs of the cattle and ensure proper care.

Feed Management

Bunks are checked multiple times daily to ensure consistent feed distribution and monitor consumption rates. Careful attention to feed delivery helps maintain uniform intake and steady gains.

Data Tracking &

Performance Monitoring

From start to finish, daily data is collected to help guide decisions and improve outcomes. Ration changes, quantities fed, pen movements, individual and mass treatments, days on feed, and multiple other data points are closely monitored to help ensure optimal performance. All information is available upon request.
